Mike Powell and The Echosound formed out of a pivotal moment in 2020, during a time when the future of live music was uncertain. As the world slowed down, Powell revisited the music that had shaped his creative path, rediscovering his roots and reigniting a passion for songwriting. What began as casual jam sessions quickly evolved into something more meaningful.
The first call was to longtime collaborator and guitarist John Hanus, followed by bassist Zak Masoud, known for his fluid, groove-driven style. Drummer Adam Manion (also known as Chaz Minivan) joined soon after, bringing a dynamic, technically skilled presence to the rhythm section. The final piece came with the addition of keyboardist and producer Jeff Aderman, a former bandmate who returned to the stage after years behind the studio console.
Initially performing under the name WADE, the group leaned into instrumental jam sessions and exploratory soundscapes. Over time, they shifted focus toward narrative-driven songwriting, aligning with Powell’s lyrical style and the band’s shared appreciation for arrangement and storytelling. The chemistry among members—each a songwriter in their own right—pushed the project into a new creative phase.
In 2022, the group rebranded as Mike Powell and The Echosound, unifying Powell’s solo work with the full-band effort. Since then, they’ve performed at venues across New York State, earning a loyal following and building momentum around their unique blend of soul, rock, and storytelling.
Their debut album, Plastic Spoon Honeymoon, was recorded at Big Blue North in Utica, N.Y., and captures the energy, emotion, and collaborative spirit that defines the band. With heartfelt lyrics, intricate arrangements, and a deep bond among members, Mike Powell and The Echosound continue to carve out their place in the American songwriting landscape.
